La empresa de Investigación y Seguridad Cibernética Rapid7, anunció que los aparatos tecnológicos que se venden en tiendas de segunda mano o se envían a reciclar contienen una gran cantidad de datos e información personal de los propietarios anteriores, informó Fortune.
Josh Frantz, investigador de la empresa, adquirió durante seis meses todo tipo de dispositivos electrónicos usados y descubrió que las empresas no realizaban el limpiado que prometen antes de venderlos.
Frantz recuperó 366.000 archivos que incluían documentos -decenas de numeraciones de la seguridad social, de tarjetas de crédito, de licencias de conducir y de pasaportes- e imágenes privadas de 41 computadoras, 27 piezas de medios extraíbles, que incluían unidades flash y tarjetas de memoria, 11 discos duros y seis teléfonos móviles.
